Position Title – Legal Secretary • Education – High School graduation or satisfactory equivalent (GED) preferably supplemented by courses in accounting. • Experience – Five years of experience in a legal office performing secretarial duties. Three years of additional education in business administration, public administration or specialized legal secretarial courses may substitute for up to three years of the required experience on a year for year basis. Highly desirables: The ideal candidate will have: • Extensive experience providing legal secretarial support in a high volume public sector or private law firm • Proficiency in preparing, formatting, and proofreading legal documents, including motions, pleadings, subpoenas, and trial binders • Strong knowledge of court rules, filing procedures, and trial preparation timelines • Demonstrated ability to coordinate schedules, manage case calendars, and support multiple attorneys simultaneously • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to work under strict deadlines • Experience with case management systems and document management platforms • Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive legal information Brief overview of assignment: The candidate will provide essential administrative and litigation support to the Attorney’s Office during a period of increased operational demand. The office is anticipating several trials within the next year, requiring additional assistance in preparing legal documents, managing case files, coordinating court deadlines, calendaring, and supporting trial preparation activities. The individual in this role will work closely with attorneys and legal support staff to ensure timely completion of tasks and smooth workflow throughout the trial preparation process. Due to the complexity and volume of upcoming cases, candidates with extensive legal secretary experience are highly preferred. The selected individual may support any of the three divisions in the Attorney’s Office including Litigation, Public Safety, and/or Municipal Services.
