Short Description:
A Legal Assistant provides administrative support to attorneys by assisting with case preparation, research, and document management. They prepare legal documents such as contracts, pleadings, and correspondence, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal standards. The role may also involve client communication, filing court documents, and maintaining legal records. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in legal software and terminology are essential for success in this position.
Duties?/?Responsibilities:
Prepare affidavits or documents, such as legal correspondence, and organize and maintain records in paper or electronic filing system.
Prepare for trial by performing tasks such as organizing exhibits.
Prepare legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, appeals, wills, contracts, and real estate closing statements.
Meet with clients and other professionals to discuss details of the case.
File pleadings with the court clerk.
Gather and analyze research data, such as statutes, decisions, legal articles, codes, and documents.
Call upon witnesses to testify at the hearing.
Investigate facts and law of cases and search relevant sources, such as public records, to determine causes of action and to prepare cases.
Direct and coordinate law office activity, including delivery of subpoenas.
Keep and monitor legal volumes to ensure that the law library is up-to-date
