This Legal Assistant Position Features:
Paralegal / Legal Assistant – Litigation & Appellate Support
Location: On-site | Shreveport, LA
Compensation: Competitive; commensurate with experience

Position Overview
The Paralegal / Legal Assistant provides direct litigation, appellate, administrative, and filing support to attorneys. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong legal formatting and proofreading skills, and the ability to manage multiple, overlapping deadlines in a fast-paced environment. The position reports directly to the Office Manager and supports all attorneys of the firm.

Qualifications

Prior litigation-related administrative or paralegal experience (required)

Familiarity with Louisiana court structure, including district courts and Louisiana Courts of Appeal (required)

Experience with Louisiana e-filing systems (e.g., Clerk of Court e-filing, Odyssey File & Serve, appellate e-filing) (required)

Strong legal formatting and proofreading skills

Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail

Ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously

Ability to work at a computer for sustained periods of time

Infrequent lifting and carrying of materials up to 30 pounds

Responsibilities
Calendar & Deadline Management

Maintain and update the firm’s internal deadline-tracking systems

Monitor court deadlines and pro actively follow up with attorneys to ensure timely and accurate filings

Case Support

Prepare Tables of Contents and Tables of Authorities

Compile, organize, finalize, and electronically bookmark appendices and exhibits

Format and proofread district court filings, including:

Motions for summary judgment

Motions in limine

Post-trial motions and proposed orders

Organize exhibits and supporting materials

Coordinate and complete filings via Louisiana e-filing systems and required paper filings

Track all submitted and filed court documents

Assist with trial and hearing preparation

Draft initial versions of orders, attorney enrollments, notices of hearing, motions, and other pleadings for attorney review

Transcript Ordering & Management

Order, track, and manage hearing and trial transcripts

Coordinate with court reporters and monitor delivery timelines

Maintain organized transcript files for trial and appellate use

File Management & Administrative Support

Download, organize, and maintain digital and physical case files in accordance with firm protocols

Prepare binders and case materials for attorneys

Provide general administrative and document-management support as needed
