Salary Range: $62,000–$68,000
We are seeking an experienced Paralegal / Legal Assistant with a strong defense litigation background to support a team of attorneys handling employment-related defense litigation before administrative agencies and state and federal courts. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented law firm environment.
This position offers a hybrid schedule, allowing 2–3 days per week remote after onboarding.
Position Summary
The Legal Assistant provides comprehensive administrative and litigation support to defense attorneys, ensuring the efficient delivery of high-quality legal services. The ideal candidate demonstrates excellent judgment, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines with professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
Handle office correspondence and administrative tasks, including answering phones, responding to emails, and communicating with clients, court clerks, and vendors
Track, review, and follow up on client deadlines and attorney calendars
Assist attorneys in all phases of the litigation and discovery process
Prepare for hearings, arbitrations, mediations, depositions, and trials
Perform Bates numbering, redactions, and e-file documents in state and federal courts
Accurately format and proofread legal documents for accuracy and completeness
Maintain and organize physical and electronic case files
Process monthly expense reports and assist with time entry review and revisions
Coordinate meetings and litigation-related proceedings
Manage conflict checks and client intake for new matters
Effectively juggle multiple assignments while maintaining a professional demeanor
Qualifications
Minimum typing speed of 65 WPM
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
At least four (4) years of solid defense litigation experience, including familiarity with Florida and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Experience with time entry systems, e-filing, and electronic document management systems preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to grammar and detail
Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Positive, “can-do” attitude and strong interpersonal skills
Proven organizational ability, dependability, flexibility, and initiative
