Our client is seeking a Leasing Consultant for a contract/temporary opportunity in Chesapeake, VA. This role is ideal for a customer-focused property management professional who is passionate about helping individuals and families access safe, stable housing.

As a Leasing Consultant, you will support leasing operations, resident services, compliance documentation, and day-to-day property administration. This position offers meaningful work in a community-centered environment where accuracy, empathy, and strong communication make a direct impact. You will work with a collaborative team, supportive leadership, and established property management processes while gaining valuable experience in housing programs, resident support, and property operations.

Key Responsibilities

- Coordinate leasing activities, including unit availability, application review, tenant interviews, lease documentation, and resident file maintenance.
- Determine rental rates based on financial assessments, collect rent, and support compliance with HUD and applicable housing regulations.
- Conduct property inspections, coordinate maintenance requests, process move-outs, and help ensure units and records are properly maintained.
- Support residents through home visits, service referrals, public assistance, and responsive communication regarding housing needs.
- Prepare reports, maintain organized documentation, update property management software, and assist the team during busy operational periods.

- Pay range: $19 to $22 per hour.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Manage leasing activities, tenant applications, resident files, and housing documentation.
- Support rent determination, rent collection, inspections, move-outs, and maintenance coordination.
- Maintain compliance with HUD requirements, housing regulations, and property management procedures.
- Provide resident support, public assistance, reports, and administrative support using property management systems.

- 3 to 5 years of professional experience, with 3 to 4 years of office experience preferred.
- Experience in housing, leasing, property management, resident services, or a related administrative environment.
- Experience working with low- to moderate-income populations.
- Knowledge of housing regulations, HUD compliance, rental processes, and property management principles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to use or learn property management software, including Yardi.
- Strong communication, organization, documentation, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented approach with the ability to manage sensitive information, competing priorities, and resident needs professionally.

Preferred Qualifications

- Prior experience in affordable housing, public housing, subsidized housing, or community-based housing programs.
- Proficiency with Yardi or similar property management software.
- Knowledge of marketing and sales techniques related to leasing and resident outreach.
- Strong understanding of resident relations, social service referrals, and community support resources.
