Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Instructional Design Specialist for a remote contract opportunity supporting workforce development within the energy and utilities industry. This role is ideal for a strategic, creative learning professional who can design engaging training programs, facilitate leadership development, and create high-quality digital learning materials.
The Instructional Design Specialist will work closely with HR, business leaders, managers, subject matter experts, vendors, and cross-functional teams to develop learning solutions that improve employee capability, leadership effectiveness, and organizational performance. This opportunity offers exposure to meaningful workforce development initiatives in a stable, essential-services industry with a collaborative environment, supportive leadership, and a strong focus on continuous improvement, inclusion, and professional growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, coordinate, implement, and evaluate training programs from needs assessment through delivery, follow-up, and continuous improvement.
- Develop engaging virtual, in-person, and hybrid learning experiences, including workshops, webinars, e-learning, leadership programs, and peer-learning sessions.
- Apply adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies such as ADDIE, SAM, and Agile to create effective learning solutions.
- Facilitate leadership development, coaching, feedback, and group learning sessions while fostering inclusive and psychologically safe learning environments.
- Create and edit presentations, courseware, videos, graphics, digital learning assets, and other multimedia content.
- Partner with stakeholders to assess learning needs, coordinate logistics, analyze program effectiveness, and promote learning adoption.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay range: $30.00 to $39.39 per hour.

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Design and deliver training programs, leadership development experiences, workshops, webinars, and e-learning solutions.
- Coordinate learning projects, course scheduling, vendors, subject matter experts, classroom technology, and learning communications.
- Evaluate learner feedback, measure program effectiveness, and recommend improvements.
- Create engaging multimedia learning content, presentations, videos, graphics, and digital course materials.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Business, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in instructional design, training, learning and development, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of adult learning theory, experiential learning, instructional design, facilitation, and leadership development.
- Experience using instructional design methodologies such as ADDIE, SAM, and Agile.
- Proficiency with Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, Camtasia, and/or Adobe Captivate.
- Ability to translate complex technical and non-technical concepts into clear, engaging learning experiences.
- Strong storytelling, presentation, audience engagement, communication, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to create inclusive learning environments and guide difficult conversations with professionalism.
- Strategic, collaborative, customer-focused, adaptable, data-driven, and results-oriented approach.
- Strong technology skills and commitment to continuous learning and learning innovation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with graphic design tools and visual communication, including Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Figma, infographics, branding, data visualization, and executive presentations.
- Experience developing learning campaigns, internal communications, employee communications, audience engagement strategies, and strategic messaging.
- Multimedia development experience, including video production and editing, motion graphics, animation, podcasts, interactive media, digital content, and AI-enhanced content creation.
- Experience with Learning Experience Design, user-centered design, and modern learning technology trends.
