A well-established construction organization in Concord, CA is seeking a detail-oriented Human Resources & Payroll Coordinator for a full-time, temp-to-hire opportunity. Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly payroll for confidential employees, including payroll tax payments, 401(k) contributions, garnishments, and EDD documentation.
- Support benefits administration by reviewing monthly health insurance invoices and assisting with employee leave tracking, including FMLA.
- Maintain HR compliance records, including Form I-9 documentation, quarterly I-9 audits, employment verifications, and employee files.
- Coordinate onboarding activities, prepare offer letters, collect new-hire documentation, and assist with interview scheduling.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records while supporting HR projects, administrative needs, and compliance-related activities.
- Prioritize deadlines, follow up on pending items, and ensure sensitive employee information is handled with professionalism and discretion.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay Rate: $28.00 to $30.00 per hour, flexible based on experience.
- Conversion Salary: Approximately $29.00 to $35.00 per hour equivalent upon permanent hire, depending on experience.

- Support benefits administration, FMLA tracking, health insurance invoice review, and employee leave records.
- Manage onboarding documentation, offer letters, employment verifications, I-9 records, and compliance audits.
- Maintain confidential HR records and support HR projects in a deadline-driven environment.
- 2+ years of human resources, payroll, benefits, HR administration, or related administrative experience preferred.
- Payroll processing experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of payroll tax processing, 401(k) contributions, employee garnishments, EDD forms, FMLA tracking, I-9 audits, employment verifications, and benefits invoicing.
- Experience handling confidential employee information with accuracy and discretion.
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience using HRIS or payroll systems.
- Strong organization, time management, follow-up, and multitasking skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting HR operations in the construction, industrial facilities, infrastructure, or related industry.
- Experience with benefits administration, onboarding, employee records management, and HR compliance.
- Familiarity with confidential payroll processing for employee groups.
- Ability to quickly adapt to internal systems, processes, and compliance requirements.
