A Human Resources Assistant opportunity is available in San Diego, CA for an organized and detail-driven HR professional with experience supporting payroll, onboarding, benefits administration, employee records, and compliance activities. This temp-to-hire role is ideal for someone who enjoys being a trusted resource for employees and leadership while supporting day-to-day HR operations in a professional legal services environment.
The Human Resources Assistant will work closely with HR leadership and cross-functional partners to support the full employee lifecycle, maintain accurate employee information, and help ensure smooth, compliant HR processes. Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate new hire onboarding, orientation, employee setup, and related employee lifecycle processes.
- Assist with payroll support, timekeeping, leave tracking, benefits enrollment, employee changes, and termination processing.
- Maintain accurate HR records and confidential personnel information while supporting compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations.
- Support recruitment activities, including job postings, applicant tracking, interview scheduling, and candidate communications.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, HR policies, and general employment-related processes.
- Serve as a liaison between employees, management, payroll providers, benefits vendors, and external service providers.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $62,400 to $63,000 per year.
- Job type: Temp-to-hire.

- Coordinate onboarding, employee status changes, leave tracking, and HR compliance activities.
- Assist with recruitment coordination, interview scheduling, candidate communication, and applicant tracking.
- Maintain confidential employee information and support HR process improvements.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 3 or more years of payroll, HR administration, or related experience.
- Working knowledge of payroll processes, human resources administration, employee benefits, and HR recordkeeping.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience using accounting, payroll, or HR software systems.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of accuracy.
- High level of discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality when handling employee and organizational information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a law firm, legal services environment, or other professional services setting.
- Knowledge of employment law and HR compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with payroll administration and employee benefits management.
- Accounting background or experience supporting accounting-related processes.
- Professional certification or coursework in accounting, human resources, or a related discipline.
