Growing heavy civil contractor specializing in large-scale infrastructure projects, such as site prep, utilities, earthwork, and paving for TxDOT and Houston subdivision projects is hiring a Senior Estimator. The Senior Estimator will work closely with Operations, Project Management, and Leadership to ensure bids are competitive, thorough, and aligned with field production capabilities. Company self-performs 80% of work.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare complete estimates for heavy civil projects, including sit preparation/excavation, clearing/grubbing, mass excavation, dirt work, underground wet utilities (storm, sanitary, water), concrete paving/related concrete structures
• Develop detailed quantity takeoffs using Bluebeam
• Build estimates using HCSS estimating software, including cost databases, crews, and production rates.
• Review plans, specs, addenda, and contract documents to identify project requirements and risk.
• Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and vendor bids to ensure scope coverage and accuracy.
• Coordinate with field leadership to validate constructability and production assumptions.
• Identify project risks and opportunities, including phasing, access constraints, and site conditions.
• Coordinate subcontractor pricing and scope alignment for asphalt paving, plumbing/fire lines, dry utilities, SWPPP, signs & striping
• Ensure subcontractor proposals are complete, competitive, and include all required scope and project constraints.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, and internal bid reviews.
• Assist with bid strategy, bid day support, and proposal submission.
• Support handoff to project management/operations after award with estimate details, assumptions, and scope clarifications.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 6+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction (site development, utilities, paving, earthwork).
• Strong proficiency with HCSS (HeavyBid preferred) and Bluebeam for digital takeoffs
• Experience estimating self-perform civil work with strong knowledge of:
o Means and methods
o Civil production rates
o Equipment and crew costing
• Ability to interpret plans/specs and build complete estimates from start to finish.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with operations and field teams.
