We are seeking an experienced HR Manager for a contract/temporary opportunity in San Jose, CA. This interim HR leadership role will provide continuity and hands-on support while the Director of Human Resources is on leave, ensuring day-to-day HR operations remain compliant, responsive, and aligned with business needs.
The HR Manager will serve as a trusted resource for employees, managers, leadership, and HR staff, supporting employee relations, compliance, leaves and accommodations, recruitment, onboarding, performance management, compensation, benefits, and HR documentation. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily HR operations, programs, policies, and procedures during the Director of Human Resources’ leave.
- Provide HR guidance to managers and employees on employee relations, performance concerns, workplace investigations, disciplinary actions, terminations, and general HR matters.
- Manage leaves of absence, reasonable accommodation requests, interactive process documentation, and related compliance requirements.
- Support recruitment and employment activities, including job descriptions, job postings, compensation review, offer letters, onboarding, promotions, offboarding, and background check matters.
- Coordinate and support the annual performance review process, including review cycles, manager and employee support, tracking, and timely completion.
- Mentor and provide ongoing support to the HR Coordinator while maintaining employee records, personnel files, communications, and confidential HR documentation.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay range: $50 to $65 per hour.
- Job type: Contract/Temporary.
- Location: San Jose, CA.
- Oversee interim HR operations and ensure continuity across employee relations, compliance, recruitment, benefits, performance management, and HR administration.
- Manage employee relations matters, workplace investigations, leaves of absence, accommodations, documentation, and employment compliance.
- Partner with leadership and managers to provide practical HR guidance and support employee engagement, morale, and workplace culture.
- Mentor the HR Coordinator and support the annual performance review process and other HR programs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible Human Resources experience, including experience independently managing a broad range of HR functions.
- Strong working knowledge of California employment laws, federal employment laws, federal contractor requirements, and HR compliance practices.
- Demonstrated experience handling employee complaints, investigations, disciplinary actions, performance concerns, terminations, and sensitive employee matters.
- Experience administering leaves of absence and reasonable accommodations, including the interactive process and required documentation.
- Experience supporting recruitment, onboarding, offboarding, offer letters, compensation data review, job descriptions, job postings, and background check matters.
- Working knowledge of benefits, compensation, workers’ compensation, payroll-related matters, performance management, employee records, and general HR programs.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to prioritize multiple HR matters independently, exercise sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to operate effectively in a temporary HR leadership assignment.
Preferred Qualifications
- HR experience within a California-based organization.
- Experience working with Insperity or a similar Professional Employer Organization, including use of PEO resources and systems for HR administration, benefits, compliance, and employee matters.
- Experience stepping into an interim, consulting, or temporary HR leadership role.
- Professional HR certification such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or a similar certification.
