Position Overview
The General Ledger Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the organization’s financial data, with emphasis on cash management activities and fixed asset accounting. This position supports financial close processes, maintains accurate accounting records, and helps ensure compliance with company policies and accounting regulations.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Cash Management & Reconciliations
Record and apply daily cash transactions accurately to customer accounts.
Perform routine reconciliations for bank accounts and cash-related GL accounts.
Research and resolve discrepancies involving cash receipts and transactions.
Work closely with the Accounts Receivable team to ensure payments are properly applied and tracked.
Fixed Asset Administration
Maintain and update fixed asset records, including acquisitions, disposals, transfers, and retirements.
Prepare monthly depreciation and amortization calculations and journal entries.
Ensure adherence to capitalization guidelines and applicable accounting standards.
Assist with physical asset audits and reconcile asset records to the general ledger.
General Ledger Responsibilities
Prepare and enter journal entries for assigned accounts, including cash, fixed assets, accruals, and prepaid expenses.
Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations.
Support month-end and year-end close activities while meeting reporting deadlines.
Assist with financial statement preparation and account variance analysis.
Compliance & Internal Controls
Ensure accounting practices comply with GAAP and internal company procedures.
Provide support during internal and external audits by gathering documentation and responding to audit requests.
Maintain effective internal controls related to cash handling and asset accounting.
Additional Responsibilities
Prepare annual property tax filings and census reporting documentation.
Provide support for inventory counts and cost accounting functions.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
Promote teamwork and maintain a collaborative, positive attitude across departments.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including support of the Veralto Enterprise System (VES).
Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred.
Minimum of 2–5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within general ledger accounting.
Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting practices.
Experience with large ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP, JD Edwards, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms.
Skills & Abilities
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Self-motivated with a proactive mindset and ability to manage priorities effectively.
Comfortable collaborating with team members, leadership, and external partners.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and common business software applications, including spreadsheets and databases.
Work Environment
Primarily office-based with occasional interaction in manufacturing or production areas.
Hybrid schedule: onsite Monday through Wednesday, remote Thursday and Friday.
