Portsmouth, VA - Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Financial Accounting Manager to lead financial operations, ensure audit readiness, and oversee all core accounting functions. This contract role is critical to maintaining financial integrity and supporting key organizational decisions.
In this position, you will manage daily financial operations across budgeting, payroll, and accounting while supervising and developing staff. You will maintain and reconcile the general ledger, oversee monthly close, prepare financial statements, and ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. Additionally, you will lead audit preparation, act as the liaison with external auditors, monitor budgets, manage cash flow, prepare payroll and regulatory reports, and strengthen internal controls through process improvements.
The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field and brings 4–6 years of experience in financial management and team leadership. Strong expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, AP/AR, fixed assets, and audit preparation is essential, along with knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and regulatory compliance. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting systems (CYMA preferred) is required.
