Our client is a well-established heavy civil contractor seeking an experienced Field Project Manager to oversee day-to-day field execution of complex civil construction projects. This role works closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, and Estimators to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget. The majority of work is self-performed, with projects including site development, mass earthwork, underground wet utilities, and concrete paving.
Position Summary
The Field Project Manager is responsible for managing field operations from mobilization through project completion. This individual plays a critical role in coordinating crews, driving production, maintaining safety and quality standards, and supporting overall project performance.
Key Responsibilities
Field Operations & Project Execution
- Manage daily field operations for assigned heavy civil projects
- Support and coordinate with Superintendents to execute work plans, schedules, and production goals.
Oversee self-performed scopes including:
- Clearing and site preparation
- Dirt work and mass excavation
- Concrete paving and related concrete structures
- Monitor productivity, sequencing, manpower, and equipment to meet project milestones.
Coordination & Communication
- Serve as a key liaison between field crews, Superintendents, Project Managers, and office teams.
- Coordinate subcontractor work for specialty scopes such as asphalt, plumbing/fire lines, dry utilities, SWPPP, signage, and striping.
- Participate in daily huddles, weekly planning meetings, safety meetings, and coordination meetings.
- Communicate schedule impacts, production challenges, and field needs to project leadership.
Cost, Schedule & Quality Control
- Track field production quantities, labor hours, and equipment usage.
- Support cost control efforts by monitoring field performance against the project budget.
- Identify potential change conditions and assist with documentation and communication.
- Ensure all work complies with project plans, specifications, and quality standards.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and enforce company safety policies and site-specific safety plans.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and environmental requirements.
- Support jobsite inspections and safety audits.
Preconstruction & Closeout Support
- Participate in preconstruction planning, site walks, and constructability reviews.
- Assist with project closeout, including punch lists, as-built documentation, and final inspections.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in heavy civil construction with strong field operations exposure.
- Hands-on experience with:
- Site development and earthwork
- Heavy highway / TxDOT projects
- Houston subdivisions
- Concrete paving
- Strong understanding of civil construction means and methods.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and schedules.
- Proven ability to work effectively with Superintendents and field crews.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with public works or TxDOT projects.
- Familiarity with production tracking, quantity reporting, and cost awareness.
- Background with self-perform heavy civil contractors.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) fluency.
