Job Overview
You will be integral to the preconstruction phase, delivering accurate and competitive cost estimates to ensure project feasibility and profitability. You will analyze project plans, collaborate with stakeholders, and apply industry expertise to produce comprehensive budgets aligned with client expectations and company standards. This role demands strong analytical skills, deep construction knowledge, and the ability to excel in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop detailed cost estimates for construction projects, covering materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services, based on drawings, specifications, and scope of work.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and validate project scope to ensure precision in cost projections.
• Analyze blueprints, proposals, and construction documents to determine resource needs and potential risks.
• Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to collect cost data and align on project requirements.
• Prepare and submit competitive bids and proposals, negotiating contracts as necessary.
• Source and assess supplier and subcontractor quotes to maximize cost efficiency.
• Monitor changes in project plans and provide updated cost impacts to maintain budget compliance.
• Use estimation software (e.g., CostX, Buildsoft) and MS Office to generate accurate reports and presentations.
• Communicate regularly with clients and internal teams, ensuring clarity throughout the estimation process.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities while adhering to industry standards and codes.
Qualifications and Requirements
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Relevant industry experience may substitute for formal education in some cases.
• Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years in construction estimating or a related role, ideally in commercial or residential projects.
• Certifications: Professional certifications such as Certified Cost Professional (CCP), Certified Estimating Technician (CET), or those from the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE) are highly valued.
• Skills:
• Strong analytical and numerical skills with keen attention to detail.
• Proficiency in estimation software (e.g., CostX, Buildsoft) and MS Office Suite.
• Ability to interpret architectural drawings and technical documents.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills for stakeholder collaboration.
• Time management and multitasking abilities to meet tight deadlines.
• Other: Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card may be required for site visits. Valid driver’s license for occasional travel to project sites.
