Job Summary:

We are seeking a calm, detail-oriented, and quick-thinking Dispatcher to join our team. The dispatcher is responsible for receiving and processing emergency and non-emergency calls, determining the nature and location of the emergency, and dispatching the appropriate emergency services personnel (police, fire, medical). This critical role ensures the safety and well-being of the public and first responders through clear communication, accuracy, and urgency.

Key Responsibilities:

Answer emergency (911) and non-emergency calls promptly and professionally.
Gather essential information from callers, including location, nature of the emergency, and any potential threats.
Dispatch emergency response units using radio, telephone, or computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
Monitor and update the status of responding units to ensure their safety and efficient resource management.
Provide pre-arrival instructions to callers in accordance with protocols (e.g., CPR guidance).
Maintain detailed and accurate records of all calls and dispatches.
Collaborate with police, fire, EMS, and other public safety agencies as needed.
Handle high-stress situations with professionalism, empathy, and quick judgment.
Operate multiple communication systems simultaneously (e.g., radio, telephone, CAD).
Adhere to all departmental protocols, procedures, and confidentiality standards.

Qualifications:

Required:

Prior experience in emergency dispatch, call centers, or customer service.
High school diploma or GED.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
Strong multitasking and decision-making abilities.
Proficiency in computer systems and typing.
Shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is required.

Preferred:

Certification in Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), CPR, or related fields.
Familiarity with public safety terminology and procedures.
Bilingual abilities are a plus.
