Job Summary

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Finance for a direct hire opportunity with a mission-driven nonprofit organization in Redmond, WA. The Director of Finance will oversee financial operations, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, grant management, compliance, and accounting administration. This position plays a key leadership role in shaping financial strategy, improving internal processes, and providing clear financial insight to executives, board members, finance committees, and operational leaders.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, financial reporting, accounting controls, and fiscal policy administration.
- Supervise, mentor, and support accounting staff responsible for billing, payroll, purchasing, transaction processing, and related accounting activities.
- Manage grant accounting, funding allocations, grant agreements, compliance requirements, and reporting for diverse funding sources.
- Partner with executive leadership, department managers, the board, and finance committee to provide financial analysis, strategic recommendations, and organizational health indicators.
- Oversee audits, tax reporting, IRS filings, regulatory compliance, ERP accounting system improvements, payroll, benefits administration, and relationships with financial partners.
- Support long-term strategic planning through financial projections, risk assessments, budget variance reviews, and process improvement initiatives.

Compensation and Benefits

- Salary range: $130,000 to $150,000 per year.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Lead nonprofit financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, cash flow management, and internal controls.
- Manage grant accounting, funding allocations, compliance reporting, audits, and nonprofit fiscal administration.
- Partner with executive leadership, board members, finance committees, and department leaders on financial strategy and decision-making.
- Improve accounting processes, ERP system workflows, reporting accuracy, and financial accountability across the organization.

- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field required.
- 10 to 15 years of finance and accounting experience, including audit experience.
- Extensive experience in nonprofit finance and operations.
- Experience managing a nonprofit budget of at least $3 million with diverse funding sources.
- Knowledge of government accounting, grants, GAAP, nonprofit regulatory requirements, and federal and state financial compliance.
- Proficiency with ERP accounting systems and the ability to improve system processes for productivity and reporting.
- Proven supervisory experience with the ability to mentor accounting staff and strengthen team performance.
- Strong analytical, strategic planning, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Ability to work effectively with executives, board members, funding sources, financial partners, and cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

- CPA certification preferred.
- Experience working with nonprofit boards, finance committees, and government-funded programs.
- Background improving financial processes, internal controls, ERP workflows, and grant reporting structures.
- Experience supporting strategic growth, financial sustainability, and long-term organizational planning in a mission-driven environment.
