Direct hire opportunity available for an experienced Director of Finance in Miami, FL, supporting a mission-driven government and public sector financial services environment.

This executive-level role is responsible for leading financial operations, budgeting, accounting, procurement, grant and contract management, internal controls, and financial reporting across multiple funding sources.

The Director of Finance will play a highly visible leadership role, partnering with internal divisions, outside agencies, auditors, and funding authorities to ensure fiscal accountability, compliance, and operational excellence. Responsibilities

- Oversee division financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, procurement, accounts payable, cash flow, internal controls, grants, contracts, and trust fund management.
- Prepare annual legislative and county budget requests, monitor appropriations and budget authority, and develop budget amendments as needed.
- Direct implementation and ongoing operation of financial, accounting, travel, and procurement systems required by state, county, federal, and grantor guidelines.
- Manage year-end closing processes, financial statement preparation, audit responses, and ongoing budget and cash flow analysis.
- Coordinate with Human Resources to ensure staffing and salary rate compliance with approved legislative funding.
- Lead, supervise, motivate, and support a finance team of 12 while ensuring priorities, deadlines, and service expectations are met.



Qualifications and Skills

- Lead financial services operations across accounting, budgeting, procurement, accounts payable, cash flow, internal controls, grants, and contracts.
- Prepare legislative and county budget requests, monitor spending against appropriations, and manage budget amendments.
- Direct financial reporting, year-end close, audit response, trust fund oversight, and grant-related funding coordination.
- Supervise and develop finance staff while managing priorities, deadlines, and cross-functional support.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in finance, accounting, or a related field and at least 4 years of professional accounting, finance, or related experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Master’s degree with at least 3 years of professional accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity, may also qualify.
- CPA certification with at least 3 years of professional accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity, may also qualify.
- Strong knowledge of accounting and financial planning principles, practices, and procedures.
- Knowledge of nonprofit or governmental fund accounting.
- Knowledge of grant and contract management.
- Experience with budgeting, appropriations, financial analysis, internal controls, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and outside agencies.
- Ability to meet stringent deadlines, manage multiple priorities, and perform effectively under pressure.
- Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, motivate, organize, and prioritize the workload of assigned staff.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in government, public sector, nonprofit, or publicly funded financial environments.
- Experience preparing legislative, state, county, or federal budget requests.
- Experience managing grants, contracts, trust funds, fee-based funds, and multi-source funding structures.
- Experience responding to audits and managing financial statement preparation and year-end close processes.
