Director of Business Development



The Director of Business Development is responsible for leading strategic business development initiatives within an assigned region or market. This role focuses on identifying new business opportunities, cultivating and strengthening client relationships, driving revenue growth, and expanding market presence. The Director develops and executes growth strategies, collaborates with operational and technical teams, and serves as a key representative of the organization within the industry and community.



Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Market Growth Identify, evaluate, and pursue new business opportunities within targeted markets and industries. Develop and execute regional business development strategies aligned with organizational growth objectives. Research market trends, competitive activity, and emerging opportunities to inform business development efforts. Build and maintain a robust pipeline of prospective clients and projects. Evaluate opportunities to ensure alignment with company goals, capabilities, and culture. Track and report on business development activities, opportunities, and outcomes. Client Relationship Management Establish, develop, and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients. Serve as a trusted advisor by understanding client needs and delivering exceptional service. Conduct regular meetings with clients and prospects to identify opportunities and strengthen partnerships. Foster relationships with industry partners, consultants, stakeholders, and community influencers. Strategic Planning & Pursuit Management Collaborate with leadership to support business planning and growth initiatives. Lead pursuit planning efforts for targeted opportunities. Coordinate the development of strategic pursuit plans and client engagement strategies. Partner with marketing and technical teams to develop qualifications, proposals, presentations, and other pursuit materials. Participate in proposal reviews, interview preparation, and presentation coaching as needed. Ensure consistency and quality throughout business development processes. Industry Engagement & Brand Development Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, networking functions, and community organizations. Promote company services, capabilities, and brand awareness within target markets. Develop and maintain a strong professional network to support business growth objectives. Contribute to thought leadership, public relations, and industry visibility initiatives. Leadership & Collaboration Collaborate with operational and technical teams to align business development efforts with organizational objectives. Provide guidance, mentoring, and support to team members involved in business development activities. Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, and client-focused service. Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned. Required Skills & Competencies Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong business acumen and strategic planning capabilities. Proven ability to develop and execute growth strategies. Excellent presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills. Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Minimum of 10–15 years of progressive business development, sales, client relationship management, or industry-related experience. Proven track record of securing new business and growing client relationships. Experience within the construction, engineering, architecture, professional services, or related industries preferred. Established network and industry relationships within target markets strongly preferred.
