Job Title: Cost Accountant (TEMP)
Location: Charleston, SC 29402
Pay: $25 to $27 per hour
Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours per week, 8:00AM-5:00PM
Assignment Length: Estimated 4 to 8 months
We are a recruiting and staffing agency assisting a local government department with the temporary placement of a Cost Accountant.
About the Role
This position is responsible for maintaining detailed subsidiary ledgers for capital work-in-progress and plant projects and reconciling those projects to the general ledger. The role also supports contributed equity and liability accounts associated with capital and work-in-progress activity.
Essential Functions
Reconcile and analyze assigned accounts to the general ledger on a monthly basis
Prepare journal entries to complete the monthly accounting cycle, annual audit, and required adjusting entries
Maintain financial data within the ERP system Dynamics 365 F&O and utilize spreadsheet or database tools for monthly and annual analysis
Verify source documents are accurately charged and appropriate for each project using sound accounting judgment
Collaborate with multiple departments to ensure timely project closeouts
Participate in the implementation and ongoing use of project, asset, and budget tracking software including testing and go-live phases
Monitor compliance with GAAP standards within assigned areas
Complete year-end audit schedules, annual incentive documentation, and assigned financial reports in a timely manner
Perform ongoing testing of accounting and project management software during system upgrades
Maintain regular and reliable attendance
Perform all duties in accordance with departmental policies and procedures
Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting or Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting and one year of related experience
or
A combination of education and progressively responsible accounting experience totaling seven years
Broad exposure to accounting principles, practices, and procedures
Moderate knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
Strong analytical abilities
Effective negotiation and interpersonal skills
Advanced proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software
Demonstrated dependability and strong work ethic
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Primarily sedentary work with occasional lifting up to 20 pounds
Ability to visually review computer screens, reports, and correspondence for analysis and reconciliation
Ability to effectively use standard office equipment and accounting software
Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally
Ability to receive and interpret detailed written and oral information
Ability to handle documents and maintain accurate records
