Job Summary:
The Cost Accountant will play a critical role in managing and analyzing the costs associated with aerospace manufacturing and production processes. This role involves detailed cost tracking, variance analysis, budgeting, and financial reporting to ensure efficient cost control and support strategic decision-making within the aerospace sector.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Analysis & Reporting:
Track, analyze, and report direct and indirect costs related to aerospace projects including labor, materials, overhead, and subcontracting costs. Prepare detailed cost reports to support project managers and senior management.
Inventory Valuation:
Oversee inventory costing, including raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company policies.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
Assist in preparing cost budgets and forecasts for aerospace projects. Monitor actual expenditures against budgets and identify cost variances with explanations.
Cost Control:
Develop and maintain cost control procedures to minimize cost overruns and improve profitability on aerospace contracts and manufacturing processes.
Compliance & Standards:
Ensure adherence to aerospace industry accounting standards, government regulations (such as FAR/DFARS), and internal policies related to cost accounting.
Project Costing:
Support project costing for fixed-price and cost-plus contracts. Work closely with engineering, procurement, and production teams to ensure accurate cost capturing.
Audit Support:
Provide documentation and support for internal and external audits, including government audits on aerospace contracts.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities to improve cost accounting systems and processes in line with aerospace industry best practices.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of cost accounting experience, preferably in aerospace, defense, or manufacturing industries.
Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, manufacturing processes, and aerospace industry standards.
Experience with ERP systems and cost accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Deltek).
Understanding of government contracting regulations (FAR/DFARS) is highly desirable.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively across departments and manage multiple projects.
Preferred Skills:
Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles.
Experience in project management or financial analysis.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and bill of materials (BOM).
