Job Summary

A growing construction company in Longmont, CO is seeking an experienced Controller – Construction Industry to lead accounting and financial operations in a hands-on, leadership-focused role. This is a direct hire opportunity for a construction accounting professional who understands job costing, WIP reporting, project billing, and financial controls within residential, commercial, or office construction environments.

The Controller will play a key role on the leadership team, providing financial insight, improving accounting processes, and supporting profitable project execution. Key Responsibilities

- Lead accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, reconciliations, and monthly close.
- Manage construction accounting processes, including job costing, WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion accounting, change order tracking, and project profitability analysis.
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
- Oversee billing, retainage tracking, lien waivers, subcontractor compliance documentation, tax filings, audits, and external financial relationships.
- Partner with project managers and leadership to analyze financial performance, improve margins, strengthen internal controls, and support successful project execution.
- Manage and mentor accounting staff while establishing best practices for financial reporting and operational efficiency.

Compensation and Benefits

- Salary range: $60,000 to $80,000 per year.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Lead full-cycle accounting and financial reporting for a construction organization.
- Manage job costing, WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion accounting, project billing, and change order tracking.
- Develop budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections, and financial analysis to support leadership decisions.
- Partner with project teams and company leadership to improve profitability, compliance, and internal controls.

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 7+ years of accounting experience, including at least 3 years in the construction industry.
- Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Senior Accounting Manager, or similar financial leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, job costing, WIP reporting, revenue recognition, construction contracts, and project billing.
- Experience with construction accounting software such as Sage 300, Viewpoint Vista, Foundation, CMiC, or a similar ERP system.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, tax regulations, audit coordination, and contractual reporting requirements.
- Excellent analytical, leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work hands-on while leading accounting staff and supporting strategic business decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

- CPA designation preferred.
- Experience supporting residential, commercial, or office construction projects.
- Background working closely with project managers, subcontractor compliance processes, retainage tracking, lien waivers, and financial institutions.
- Proven ability to improve accounting processes, strengthen internal controls, and support company growth.
