A growing multi-location automotive products and services organization is seeking an experienced Controller to lead finance and accounting operations from its corporate office in Anaheim, CA. This full-time, direct hire Controller role reports directly to the CFO and offers the opportunity to influence financial strategy, strengthen internal controls, improve reporting, and support continued business growth.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader who enjoys partnering with executive leadership, store operations, warehouse teams, and finance staff. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting knowledge, practical business judgment, and a team-oriented leadership style.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including financial statements, consolidations, management reporting, and store-level P&L reporting.
- Oversee accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, payroll accounting, bank reconciliations, intercompany activity, and general ledger accuracy.
- Manage inventory accounting processes, including valuation, cycle counts, shrink analysis, reconciliations, and reporting across stores, warehouses, and the general ledger.
- Maintain strong internal controls over cash handling, purchasing, inventory, disbursements, accounting practices, GAAP compliance, audit coordination, and regulatory filings.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash management, working capital analysis, margin reporting, and profitability analysis across executive, district, store, and warehouse levels.
- Partner with operations leadership to improve financial processes, reporting, automation, labor management, expense controls, margins, and overall business performance.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $150,000 to $185,000 per year.
- Employment type: Full-time, direct hire.
- Work location: Corporate-based position in Anaheim, CA, with regular visits to store and warehouse locations.
- Lead financial close, financial reporting, consolidations, and management reporting across multiple entities.
- Oversee accounting operations, inventory accounting, internal controls, audit coordination, and compliance.
- Drive budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, working capital management, and profitability reporting.
- Partner with operations leaders to improve store and warehouse financial performance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior accounting leadership role.
- Experience in a multi-location, multi-entity environment, preferably within retail, automotive, distribution, or a product and service-based business.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, month-end close, financial consolidations, balance sheet reconciliations, internal controls, and audit coordination.
- Experience with inventory accounting, cycle counts, valuation, shrink, reconciliations, pricing strategies, and service-based revenue models.
- Proficiency with ERP and accounting systems, along with advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate financial data into actionable business recommendations.
- Proven leadership, coaching, team development, communication, and cross-functional partnership skills.
- High attention to detail, sound judgment, integrity, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or equivalent professional credential strongly preferred.
- Experience with Great Plains, QuickBooks, and NetSuite is heavily preferred.
- Experience with POS systems and retail reporting data is a plus.
- Prior accounting leadership experience in automotive retail, tire and service, wholesale, warehouse, distribution, or multi-unit operations is preferred.
