Job Summary

A growing residential real estate organization is seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting and financial reporting for a residential property portfolio in Los Angeles, CA. This direct hire opportunity is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader with deep residential property management experience, strong technical accounting skills, and advanced Yardi proficiency.

The Controller will play a highly visible leadership role, managing a team of approximately six accounting professionals while partnering closely with property management, operations, and executive leadership. Key Responsibilities

- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of approximately six accounting professionals supporting residential property accounting operations.
- Oversee accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of residential properties and development projects.
- Direct month-end and year-end close processes, including financial statements, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analysis.
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow projections, general ledger activity, and reporting accuracy.
- Develop, maintain, and improve internal controls, accounting procedures, reporting processes, and operational efficiencies.
- Coordinate annual audits and work closely with external auditors, tax professionals, property management, operations, and executive leadership.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Oversee full-cycle accounting operations for residential property portfolios and development projects.
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, close processes, and accounting review.
- Manage budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections, audits, internal controls, and financial analysis.
- Serve as a key accounting systems resource with a strong emphasis on Yardi software.

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 7 or more years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities.
- Significant experience in residential property management, real estate, or property development accounting.
- Prior experience managing accounting staff and overseeing department operations.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and internal controls.
- Advanced proficiency with Yardi software is required.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to partner effectively with executives, operations teams, property management teams, auditors, and tax professionals.

Preferred Qualifications

- CPA designation preferred.
- Experience supporting residential real estate growth, development projects, or multi-property portfolios.
- Demonstrated success improving accounting processes, reporting capabilities, internal controls, and team performance.
