Overview

A respected tribal government entity in North San Diego County is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and strategic financial guidance to executive leadership.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, government or tribal finance experience (preferred), and the ability to lead a team while ensuring the financial integrity of the organization.

Key Responsibilities
Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, financial reporting, cash management, and internal controls
Prepare and deliver accurate, timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and tribal regulations and accounting standards
Develop, implement, and maintain internal control policies, procedures, and financial guidelines
Manage cash flow, credit, and investment activities, including recommendations for fund procurement and surplus investments
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate accounting and finance staff, including performance management and personnel decisions
Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations to executive leadership to support organizational goals
Monitor intercompany/inter-entity transactions across multiple legal entities
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes, accounting standards, and organizational policies
Oversee banking activities, including deposits and cash handling procedures
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required)
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility
Experience in government, tribal, or public sector finance strongly preferred
Strong knowledge of:
GAAP and financial reporting
Government regulations and compliance requirements
Financial analysis and strategic planning
Proven leadership and team management skills
High level of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail
Proficiency in Sage Intacct or similar ERP/accounting systems
