Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Controller with a strong background in the construction industry to lead our financial operations. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of construction accounting, including project costing and WIP schedules, and possess exceptional skills in general ledger management and Excel-based financial modeling.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including A/P, A/R, payroll, bank reconciliations, and journal entries
Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports
Monitor project budgets and job costing in collaboration with project managers
Manage the Work-In-Progress (WIP) schedule and ensure timely revenue recognition
Support external audits and tax preparation with CPA firms
Develop and maintain advanced Excel models for financial forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis
Implement process improvements and internal controls to ensure financial integrity
Ensure compliance with all regulatory, legal, and financial reporting standards
Supervise and mentor accounting staff
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a Controller or similar leadership role
Construction industry experience required (commercial or residential)
Strong knowledge of construction-specific accounting principles (WIP, job costing, retainage, etc.)
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint, QuickBooks)
Expert-level Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and financial modeling
Strong analytical and organizational skills
Excellent communication and leadership abilities
