The Controller will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with industry regulations, and support of strategic financial initiatives. This role reports directly to the CFO and plays a critical part in the company’s financial health and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage all accounting functions including general ledger, job costing, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, billing, and financial reporting.
Ensure timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
Maintain and enforce internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial data.
Manage preparation of financial statements, job cost reports, WIP schedules, and cash flow forecasts.
Supervise and mentor the accounting team, promoting continuous improvement and professional development.
Support the CFO with budget development, forecasting, and financial strategy.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, IRS regulations, and industry-specific reporting requirements.
Assist in the development and maintenance of financial policies and procedures.
Collaborate with project managers to provide financial insights and job performance analysis.
Oversee accounting software systems and assist with implementation and upgrades as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the construction or real estate industry.
Strong understanding of construction accounting, job costing, and WIP reporting.
Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint, Foundation, or similar).
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Strong leadership abilities and experience managing accounting staff.
Knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial compliance regulations.
Preferred Skills:
Experience in commercial general contracting or construction management.
Familiarity with AIA billing, subcontractor compliance, and lien waivers.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with attention to detail.
