Job Summary
We are seeking a part-time Content Creator to support digital storytelling, social media content creation, and video editing for a fast-paced media and communications environment in Columbia, SC. This onsite role is ideal for a creative professional with a strong interest in news, community stories, social media trends, and engaging visual content.
The Content Creator will collaborate closely with a news-focused team to produce timely, polished, and audience-ready content across social platforms. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, teamwork, and hands-on creative production in a supportive environment where strong communication, adaptability, and creativity are valued.
This role offers a part-time schedule with consistent weekly hours, the opportunity to contribute to meaningful local content, and flexibility for candidates who may also maintain freelance creative work outside of this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, edit, and schedule social media content that supports news stories, programs, events, and digital audience engagement.
- Collaborate with the news team to develop compelling video, graphic, and social content for multiple platforms.
- Perform basic video editing and graphic design using Adobe Creative Suite and related creative tools.
- Assist with social media planning, publishing, and scheduling through platforms such as Sprout Social.
- Appear on camera as needed to support digital storytelling and social media content initiatives.
- Travel occasionally with the team to events in the Columbia area to capture content and support coverage needs.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay: $16-$17 per hour.
- Schedule: Part-time, up to 25 hours per week.
- Anticipated schedule is typically 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., depending on team needs and scheduling availability.
- Work arrangement: Onsite in Columbia, SC.
- Occasional local travel to events in the Columbia area is required.
- Candidates may continue their own freelance work outside of this role, provided there is no conflict of interest.

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Create social media content for news, programs, events, and digital storytelling campaigns.
- Edit short-form video content and basic graphics for social media and digital channels.
- Schedule and publish content across social media platforms using content management tools.
- Collaborate with a news and communications team in a fast-paced production environment.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in content creation, social media, video editing, digital media, communications, or a related creative role.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience with Sprout Social or similar social media scheduling and publishing platforms.
- Strong understanding of social media content creation, platform trends, posting best practices, and audience engagement.
- Basic video editing and graphic design skills.
- Comfortable appearing on camera for social media and digital storytelling content.
- Strong interest in news, local stories, media, and digital communications.
- Reliable transportation for occasional travel to local events around Columbia, SC.
- Ability to complete a driver background check.
- Strong collaboration, communication, time management, and adaptability skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a fast-paced communications, media, broadcasting, news, or digital content environment.
- Background in broadcasting, journalism, video production, film, music, or related creative industries.
- Experience creating short-form video content for platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, or similar digital channels.
- Ability to balance creativity with deadlines, brand standards, and timely content needs.
