OA Reference: Project Accountant
The Project Accountant plays a critical role in overseeing the financial performance of assigned construction projects. This position is responsible for billings, job cost analysis, subcontractor compliance, accounts payable coordination, and supporting project managers with ongoing financial reporting.
This role requires strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of construction accounting principles, and the ability to communicate effectively with internal teams, subcontractors, and clients.
Key Responsibilities
Project Accounting & Financial Tracking
Manage financial setup and maintenance for assigned projects
Prepare monthly project billings, progress billings, and reconciliation
Review and code project invoices, ensuring alignment with budgets and contracts
Track and analyze job costs, labor, equipment, and materials
Assist with forecasting, budget updates, and cost-to-complete reports
Subcontractor & Vendor Coordination
Maintain subcontractor compliance, including COIs, waivers, and billing requirements
Review subcontractor pay applications for accuracy and contract alignment
Coordinate vendor payments and ensure timely processing
Resolve discrepancies in invoices, purchase orders, and subcontract terms
Reporting & Documentation
Prepare monthly project financial reports and dashboards for project managers
Maintain accurate and organized digital and physical project accounting records
Assist with month-end close procedures and work closely with the corporate accounting team
Support audits, financial reviews, and documentation requests
Collaboration & Support
Partner closely with project managers, superintendents, and leadership teams
Attend project meetings to provide financial updates as needed
Assist with process improvements to streamline accounting procedures
Provide administrative and financial support to project teams as required
Required Qualifications
2–5 years of accounting experience, with 1–3 years in construction strongly preferred
Working knowledge of construction accounting, job cost allocation, and project billing
Proficiency with accounting or ERP systems (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage 300, Procore, CMiC, QuickBooks)
Strong skills in Excel, spreadsheets, and cost tracking
Excellent organization, time-management, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
High degree of accuracy, integrity, and problem-solving ability
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
Experience with lien waivers, progress billing formats (AIA), or WIP reporting
Knowledge of change order processing and construction compliance requirements
Experience supporting multiple projects simultaneously
