If you’re an accountant who wants to work on real commercial construction projects, not just month-end close, this role gives you visibility, influence, and long-term stability. You’ll partner with leadership, support multiple active jobs, and directly impact project profitability and cost control in a fast-paced, commercial environment.
Position Overview
We are looking for a Construction Job Costing Accountant to join our team with proven experience in commercial construction job costing. This role supports financial operations across multiple active projects, focusing on accurate job cost tracking, WIP reporting, and project-level financial analysis. You will provide actionable insights that help leadership manage margins, control costs, and maintain financial compliance.
About the Company
This organization operates in a commercial, project-driven environment supporting construction and specialized field services. Projects are deadline-driven and financially complex, requiring strong internal controls and accurate reporting. The company offers long-term stability, collaborative leadership, and opportunities for professional growth.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform commercial construction job costing across multiple active projects
• Track, analyze, and reconcile labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs
• Prepare and review accounting records, including financial statements and internal reports
• Maintain and report Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and project financials
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and margin analysis at the project level
• Perform internal audits and ensure compliance with company policies and GAAP standards
• Develop and improve processes related to cost control, reporting, and financial efficiency
• Present financial findings and recommendations to leadership and key stakeholders
Qualifications
• 3–5 years of experience in commercial construction job costing
• Strong experience in cost accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, cost tracking, and reconciliations
• Hands-on experience with commercial WIP reporting and project financials
• Solid knowledge of GAAP and construction accounting principles
• Experience with accounting software and project-based financial systems
• Exceptional attention to detail with strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• BA Degree in Accounting or related field.
This is not a back-office accounting role. You’ll be embedded in the financial backbone of commercial construction operations, with exposure to leadership and meaningful input into cost control and profitability. If you’re looking for complex work, stability, and long-term growth, this opportunity is worth exploring.
