Job Title: Controller

Salary Range: $90,000 - $117,000 (DOE)

Role Overview:
As the Controller, you will manage a small team of two accounting staff members and oversee day-to-day financial functions. You will ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, manage payroll and accounts payable/receivable processes, and ensure the integrity of the company’s financial records. In addition, you will have the opportunity to work closely with the CFO and assist in budgeting, reporting, and other key initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

- Manage Daily Operations: Oversee daily accounting department functions, ensuring all balance sheet accounts are reconciled and journal entries are posted.

- Payroll & AP/AR Oversight: Review payroll processes and manage accounts payable/receivable with a focus on invoice tracking and collections.

- Financial Reporting & Tax Compliance: Prepare monthly financial statements and ensure proper tax filings, including sales and use tax and Controlled Insurance Programs (CIP).

- Team Leadership: Lead and manage a small team of accounting staff, providing guidance and support as needed.

- Financial Planning & Analysis: Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, and annual financial reports for management and regulatory bodies.

- Special Projects: Support the CFO with special projects and any additional duties as required.

Experience & Qualifications:

- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.

- Experience: 5-7 years of progressive experience in accounting, with a minimum of 5 years in a construction environment (general contractor experience required).

- Accounting Expertise: Strong knowledge of GAAP, accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, and financial analysis.

- Software Knowledge: Familiarity with accounting systems is preferred, particularly Sage 100 Contractor. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is essential.

- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with Texas Lien Laws and experience with subcontractor/supplier waivers and filings.

- Certification: CCIFP certification is preferred, or the ability and willingness to obtain it while working for the company.

- Additional Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset. Must be comfortable interacting at all levels within the organization.

Desired Qualifications:

Construction Industry Experience: Minimum 5 years working with a general contractor in the construction industry.

Controller Experience: 5 years of experience in a Controller or senior accounting role is preferred.

Texas Notary: Must be able to qualify for a Texas Notary, if not already certified.
