A leading national law firm is seeking an experienced and well-connected Business Development Manager to support growth initiatives in its New York office. This role is ideal for a strategic, relationship-driven professional who thrives in a fast-paced professional services environment and enjoys building visibility through community engagement and market expansion.
The Business Development Manager will play a key role in strengthening the firm’s presence in the New York market while collaborating with attorneys and business development colleagues across the country. Select travel and remote coordination with other offices may be required.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Growth Strategy
Develop and execute business development strategies aligned with firmwide growth objectives
Identify new market opportunities, client prospects, and service expansion initiatives, with a focus on the New York region
Attorney & Client Relationship Management
Partner closely with attorneys to support client development efforts
Introduce attorneys to prospective clients and referral sources
Conduct client and market needs assessments to align services with demand
Market Research & Competitive Analysis
Monitor legal industry trends, client needs, and competitive activity
Deliver actionable insights and strategic recommendations to leadership
Proposals, Pitches & Presentations
Lead the development of high-quality proposals, pitch materials, and presentations
Collaborate with partners and practice groups to create compelling client-facing content
Networking & Community Engagement
Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, and community organizations
Build and maintain a strong professional network within the New York legal and business community
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with attorneys, marketing, and firm leadership to align business development efforts
Support internal communication to ensure a consistent and coordinated client experience
Performance Tracking & Reporting
Track business development initiatives and evaluate effectiveness
Adjust strategies based on data, feedback, and market conditions
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Law, or a related field
Advanced degree (MBA or JD) is a plus
6–10+ years of business development experience, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment
Demonstrated success driving market growth and client acquisition
Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of the legal services industry
Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills
Proven ability to develop trusted relationships with attorneys and senior stakeholders
Strategic thinker with strong analytical and market research capabilities
Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple initiatives
Comfortable working independently and collaboratively
Proficiency with CRM systems and Microsoft Office
