A Bookkeeper opportunity is available in Chesapeake, VA for a detail-oriented accounting professional with strong payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general financial recordkeeping experience. This temp-to-hire role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with numbers, maintaining accurate records, and supporting a team-oriented manufacturing environment.
This position offers a stable Monday through Friday schedule, a casual and family-oriented workplace, and the opportunity to work closely with leadership, internal team members, clients, vendors, and an outside CPA firm. The right candidate will bring daily dependability, professional communication skills, and the confidence to manage essential bookkeeping functions with accuracy and consistency.
Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly payroll for approximately 18 employees using Sage.
- Prepare quarterly and year-end payroll tax reports, including W-2s, 1099s, FUTA, and VA-6 reporting.
- Manage accounts receivable tasks in JobBOSS, including invoice creation, receipt posting, deposit preparation, and bank reconciliation.
- Support accounts payable by posting invoices for verification and preparing outbound payments for approval.
- Greet customers and assist with incoming calls, emails, correspondence, and general office support.
- Process occasional credit card payments in person or by phone while following proper payment handling procedures.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay range: $48,000 to $52,000 per year.
- Job type: Temp-to-hire.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with a 30-minute lunch from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm.
- Location: Chesapeake, VA 23323.
- Start date: ASAP.
- No driving required.
- Manage weekly payroll processing and related payroll tax reporting.
- Handle accounts receivable, accounts payable, invoice processing, deposits, and bank reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate financial records and support day-to-day bookkeeping operations.
- Communicate professionally with internal teams, ownership, clients, vendors, and an outside CPA firm.
- 3 to 5 years of bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, or related financial administration experience.
- Proficiency with invoice-related data processing in accounting systems.
- Strong understanding of financial recordkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational skills and accuracy in numbers-based work.
- Professional communication skills and the ability to interact with customers, vendors, team members, and external accounting partners.
- Dependable, confident, business-minded, and able to manage daily responsibilities with consistency.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Sage payroll software.
- Experience with JobBOSS or similar manufacturing, accounting, or ERP systems.
- Prior bookkeeping experience in a manufacturing, job shop, or production-related environment.
- Familiarity with year-end payroll reporting requirements, including W-2s, 1099s, FUTA, and state payroll filings.
