Job Title: Accounting Manager

Overview:

The Accounting Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the General Accounting and Financial Reporting functions. Using sound judgment and independent decision-making, this position supervises two or more team members within the Accounting Department and dedicates over 50% of work time to performing exempt-level duties. The role ensures strong internal controls, safeguards company assets, and maintains compliance with financial policies and reporting standards.

Essential Responsibilities:

Supervise, manage, and provide direction to two or more employees in the Accounting Department, overseeing areas such as General Accounting, Financial Reporting, Credit, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable.

Make recommendations regarding hiring, disciplinary actions, and terminations.

Ensure credit risk is aligned with business goals, and only valid, authorized claims are paid.

Oversee core accounting operations, including inter-company accounting, cash management and reconciliation, financial reporting, balance sheet maintenance (excluding inventory), and royalty accounting.

Establish and maintain internal controls to ensure the safeguarding of company assets.

Lead internal controls documentation, testing, and segregation of duties processes.

Provide GAAP-related technical accounting support across company entities; assist in M&A due diligence and related financial activities.

Manage timely and accurate revenue recognition by reviewing customer orders and contracts, in coordination with Sales and Customer Service.

Ensure financial records are in compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal policies. Review account reconciliations and supporting documentation monthly and quarterly.

Prepare and review financial reports in line with U.S. GAAP, internal policies, and SEC reporting standards.

Oversee compliance with federal, state, and local tax reporting (income, property, sales/use, payroll), insurance reporting, and regulatory filings. Support Corporate Tax, Treasury, and Risk departments as needed.

Collaborate with IT to ensure financial systems meet accounting and operational requirements. Validate and recommend system changes as necessary.

Coordinate internal and external audits, address audit findings, and implement corrective actions.

Recruit, train, and develop accounting team members to meet performance expectations and support ongoing professional growth.

Perform additional duties as assigned for both AFI and AFIH.

AFIH-Specific Duties:

Manage banking relationships and transactions.

Prepare and analyze financial statements.

Conduct budget analysis and variance reporting.

Provide accounting consultation to overseas holding subsidiaries.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

1–2 years of corporate accounting experience, with a solid understanding of accounting principles and practices.

Proven experience managing and developing a team.

Strong analytical and financial planning skills; manufacturing environment experience preferred.

Expertise in U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.

Effective leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Bilingual proficiency in Japanese and English is required.
