We are seeking an Assistant Staff Accountant for a direct hire opportunity in Fort Lauderdale, FL. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with construction accounting, job cost, fixed asset, or equipment accounting experience who is ready to grow into broader general accounting responsibilities.
The Assistant Staff Accountant will support fixed assets, equipment, vehicles, job costs, reconciliations, invoice review, allocations, and month-end close activity. Key Responsibilities
- Maintain fixed asset and equipment records, including asset numbers, acquisition packages, invoice support, transfers, additions, disposals, and assets in progress.
- Enter and update asset information in accounting, fixed asset, document management, and construction systems according to established procedures.
- Assist with reconciliations for fixed assets, accumulated depreciation, asset-in-progress balances, disposals, general ledger accounts, and supporting schedules.
- Review equipment, vehicle, trailer, maintenance, and asset-related invoices for proper coding, workflow, job cost assignment, and overhead allocation.
- Support month-end close through recurring journal entries, cost allocations, account reclasses, reconciliations, schedules, and documentation.
- Provide fleet card and operational accounting support, including card assignments, vehicle-to-employee records, fuel card updates, and coordination with internal departments.
Compensation and Benefits
- Job Type: Direct Hire.
- Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL.
- Salary Range: $65,000 to $70,000 per year.
- Support fixed asset and equipment accounting processes, including additions, disposals, documentation, reconciliations, and asset-in-progress activity.
- Assist with construction job cost accounting, invoice coding, cost allocations, account reclasses, and month-end schedules.
- Maintain accurate fleet, vehicle, fuel card, and equipment-related accounting records.
- Research variances, missing documentation, coding questions, and transaction support across accounting and operational systems.
- 2 or more years of accounting, bookkeeping, or job cost experience, preferably in construction, renewable energy, heavy equipment, fleet, manufacturing, or another asset-intensive environment.
- Working knowledge of general ledger coding, job costing, invoice review, account reconciliations, and basic journal entries.
- Practical exposure to fixed assets or equipment accounting, including asset additions, disposals, tagging, capitalization support, depreciation schedules, construction in progress, assets in progress, or fixed asset registers.
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including sorting, filtering, formulas, lookups, and reconciling data from multiple sources.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and ability to manage recurring accounting deadlines.
- Professional communication skills with the ability to collaborate across Accounting, Purchasing, Equipment, Information Technology, Human Resources, Payroll, and Operations.
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation, support audit requests, follow internal controls, and handle confidential information with sound judgment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
- Experience with Sage 300 CRE, Procore, HH2, Asset Keeper, Comdata, SharePoint, or comparable construction and accounting systems.
- Experience preparing reconciliations, cost allocations, and routine month-end journal entries with limited supervision.
- Familiarity with vehicle, fleet, equipment, insurance, payroll-related accounting, or construction job cost processes.
- Interest in growing into broader fixed asset, depreciation, capitalization, disposal, job cost analysis, and general accounting responsibilities.
