Overview
A nationwide commercial General Construction & Facility Maintenance organization is seeking an Assistant Controller to support financial operations with a hands-on focus on accurate accounting, month-end close processes, internal controls, and job-cost visibility across construction and service work.

Key Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day accounting operations across A/P, A/R, cash receipts, and disbursements
Lead month-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and reporting packages
Maintain general ledger integrity, including proper cost coding and account classification
Prepare and review financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) with variance analysis
Support job costing accuracy, including cost allocations and margin reporting
Monitor A/R aging and assist with collections and issue resolution
Oversee A/P workflows, ensuring proper coding, approvals, and payment controls
Support vendor compliance documentation (W-9s, COIs, lien waivers, etc.)
Prepare recurring financial reports (cash position, aging reports, job cost summaries)
Assist with budgeting and forecasting, including cost tracking and project inputs
Partner with operations to improve financial visibility and reporting accuracy
Maintain internal controls and support audit readiness
Coordinate with external CPA/audit partners as needed
Support ERP/system improvements and process standardization
Identify process gaps and drive continuous improvement
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
4–7+ years of progressive accounting experience (construction or project-based accounting preferred)
Strong knowledge of GAAP, month-end close, and financial reporting
Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations)
Experience with accounting systems (QuickBooks Online and/or ERP systems)
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication skills with internal teams and vendors
Preferred Experience
Job costing and project margin reporting
ERP system implementations or migrations (e.g., Business Central)
A/P workflow improvements and internal controls
Multi-entity or multi-state accounting environments
Audit support and preparation
Familiarity with construction documentation (POs, COs, vendor compliance, closeouts)
