We’re partnered with a growing organization in the real estate, property management, and construction space that’s looking for a sharp, proactive Assistant Controller to help lead their accounting function. This is a hands-on role for someone with strong technical chops, sound judgment, and the confidence to jump in wherever needed.
This position plays a key role in overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, strengthening internal controls, and supporting leadership with accurate, timely financial reporting across multiple entities and projects.
What You’ll Be Doing
Lead the monthly close process across multiple properties, projects, and entities
Prepare and review journal entries and financial statements in accordance with GAAP
Oversee real estate, property management, and construction accounting, including job costing, WIP, project billings, and capital expenditures
Perform and review CAM reconciliations and tenant billings
Reconcile balance sheet accounts, intercompany transactions, and consolidations
Help develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures
Assist with budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis
Provide financial insight to support operational and project-level decisions
Support system improvements, automation, and process enhancements
Take on special projects as needed
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred)
4–6+ years of accounting experience in real estate, property management, or construction
Strong working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
Hands-on experience with QuickBooks, AppFolio, Buildertrend (required)
Advanced Excel skills (PivotTables, VLOOKUP, advanced formulas)
Experience with job costing, WIP schedules, CAM reconciliations, and project billings
Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
Proactive, independent, and comfortable taking ownership
Clear communicator who collaborates well with operations and leadership
