Location: Irvine, CA
Pay: $24–$27 per hour

Position Overview
A growing construction company is seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Payable Specialist to join its Accounting team. This role is responsible for processing vendor invoices, subcontractor pay applications, compliance documentation, and payment activities while supporting multiple active construction projects. The ideal candidate has strong accounts payable experience, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable Processing

Review, code, and process vendor invoices and subcontractor pay applications
Match purchase orders, contracts, and invoices to ensure accuracy
Verify pricing, job numbers, and cost codes
Prepare and assist with weekly check runs
Maintain vendor files, W-9 records, and payment documentation
Respond to vendor inquiries in a professional and timely manner

Construction Accounting Support

Review and track lien waivers, insurance certificates, and compliance documents before payment release
Assist with annual 1099 preparation and reporting
Reconcile accounts payable aging reports
Support month-end closing activities
Maintain accurate records and documentation for audits

Team Collaboration

Work closely with Accounting, Project Management, and Operations teams
Assist in improving AP processes and workflow efficiency
Support internal and external audits as needed
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling financial information

Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of experience in Accounts Payable or a related accounting role
Construction industry experience strongly preferred
Experience processing invoices, lien releases, and compliance documents
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent organizational and time-management skills
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook
Understanding of general accounting principles

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Sage 300 Construction & Real Estate (Timberline), Procore, or similar accounting systems
Familiarity with job cost accounting and cost coding
Knowledge of subcontractor billing requirements
Understanding of AIA billing and progress payments
Exposure to California construction lien and retention laws
