Job Summary
We are seeking an Accounting Specialist with Law office experience for a direct hire opportunity with a professional legal services organization in Downtown Los Angeles. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with 3 to 5 years of experience who enjoys a hands-on, team-oriented environment and wants exposure to multiple areas of law firm accounting.
The Accounting Specialist/Legal will support billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, trust accounting, general ledger activity, collections support, and month-end reporting. Approximately 50% of the role is focused on high-volume billing, making accuracy, follow-through, and strong attention to detail essential.
This is a fully in-office position with a collaborative accounting team that relies on one another to meet deadlines and maintain strong financial operations.
- Prepare prebills and final invoices according to attorney instructions, client billing guidelines, and firm procedures.
- Edit time entries, revise billing narratives, post client payments, and apply funds accurately to client matters.
- Process vendor invoices, check requests, electronic payments, expense reimbursements, and related approval routing.
- Support accounts receivable monitoring, collections follow-up, vendor reconciliations, and discrepancy resolution.
- Assist with trust/IOLTA account deposits, disbursements, reconciliations, client trust ledgers, and compliance requirements.
- Support general ledger entries, month-end and year-end close, financial reporting, audits, tax preparation, and special projects.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $82,000 to $90,000 per year.

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Manage legal billing processes, including prebills, invoice revisions, final billing, and client payment posting.
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, expense management, vendor reconciliations, and collections activity.
- Assist with trust accounting, IOLTA reconciliations, client ledgers, and compliance with legal accounting standards.
- Support general ledger maintenance, month-end reporting, financial reviews, audits, and year-end accounting projects.
- 3 to 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a law firm or legal services environment.
- Strong understanding of billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger support, and month-end accounting procedures.
- Familiarity with trust accounting requirements and legal billing compliance standards.
- Proficiency with Excel, accurate data entry, and organized financial recordkeeping.
- Ability to work with confidential financial information using discretion and professionalism.
- Strong communication skills when working with attorneys, staff, vendors, clients, and accounting leadership.
- Highly organized, reliable, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Team-oriented approach with the ability to support multiple attorneys, departments, and accounting functions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior law firm accounting or legal billing experience.
- Experience with legal accounting or billing software such as ProLaw, Aderant, Elite, Tabs3, or similar platforms.
- Experience assisting with collections, client billing guidelines, and attorney billing revisions.
- Familiarity with State Bar trust accounting rules and law firm compliance standards.
