A mission-driven nonprofit organization in Costa Mesa is seeking a detail-oriented, analytical, and highly organized Accounting Specialist to join their team on a Direct Hire basis. Keys to Hire

AA in Accounting or Finance preferred
2–4 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience (nonprofit strongly preferred)
Familiarity with fund accounting and donor management systems
Proficient in Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables required)
Experience with Financial Edge NXT & Raiser’s Edge is a major plus

Primary Responsibilities

Accounts Payable (A/P)

Enter invoices accurately and on time; prepare supporting documentation
Reconcile credit card statements and record payments
Process payments via check, ACH, and other methods while maintaining confidentiality
Maintain vendor files and respond promptly to inquiries

Accounts Receivable (A/R) & Donations

Record and reconcile contributions, grants, and event revenue
Prepare invoices, receipts, and acknowledgments
Support donor record management and integration between Raiser’s Edge and Financial Edge NXT
Monitor outstanding receivables and assist with follow-up

General Accounting Support

Assist with journal entries, accruals, and limited month-end close activities
Maintain organized audit-ready documentation for grants and compliance
Track and update Fixed Assets within FENXT; prepare related entries
Assist with tax prep reports, audit prep reports, and annual filings (including 1099s)

Reporting & Analysis

Generate financial and donor reports using Financial Edge NXT and Raiser’s Edge
Build Excel-based reports for budgeting, grant reporting, and department needs
Prepare materials for Board, staff, and event meetings

Administrative & Cross-Functional Support

Communicate effectively with internal teams, program staff, and external partners
Support process improvements and update accounting procedure documentation
Uphold GAAP and nonprofit financial policies with strict confidentiality
Support occasional special events — may require travel, weekend work, or overnight stays
