Accounting Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Specialist to manage day-to-day financial operations and ensure strict compliance with banking regulations. In this role, you will handle complex reconciliations, monitor general ledger accounts, and support month-end closing processes. The ideal candidate has a strong background in financial institution accounting, sharp analytical skills, and a high level of attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
~ Reconciliations: Perform daily balancing and reconciliation of complex bank accounts, corresponding bank accounts, Federal Reserve accounts, and clearing accounts.
~ General Ledger Maintenance: Research, trace, and resolve clearing account exceptions and variances across branches or departments.
~ Month-End Close: Prepare and post journal entries, maintain fixed asset schedules, and assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements.
~ Accounts Payable/Receivable: Process vendor invoices, manage expense reports, and ensure accurate coding according to corporate policies.
~ Regulatory Support: Assist with internal and external audit preparation, ensuring all documentation complies with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and banking regulations.
Requirements & Qualifications
~ Experience: 3–5 years of accounting experience, specifically within a bank, credit union, or financial services environment.
~ Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field preferred (Associate degree with equivalent banking experience considered).
~ Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (vlookups, pivot tables) and experience with core banking software such as enterprise ERP systems.
~ Core Competencies: Strong understanding of debit/credit structures in a banking environment; exceptional problem-solving skills for resolving complex variances.
