A construction contractor in Poway, CA is seeking an Accounting Manager for a full-time, temp-to-hire opportunity supporting construction finance, job costing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and project cost tracking. This in-office role is a strong fit for an organized accounting professional who understands the pace and detail required in a general contractor or subcontractor environment.
This position offers the opportunity to work closely with project and accounting teams while gaining deeper exposure to construction accounting systems, project budgets, WIP reporting, progress billing, and project closeout. Key Responsibilities
- Enter and maintain accurate accounting and project cost data in QuickBooks and Procore.
- Support job costing, budget tracking, progress billing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable processes.
- Upload contracts and change orders into Procore and identify sync errors with QuickBooks.
- Track project costs, billing activity, budgets, and closeout documentation to support profitability.
- Maintain detailed records for internal reporting, year-end audits, general ledger reconciliations, and WIP reports.
- Assist with administrative accounting support and CPA information requests as needed.
- Manage construction accounting support for project budgets, job costing, billing, and closeout.
- Maintain accurate project cost records in QuickBooks and Procore.
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, WIP reporting, and audit preparation.
- Track contracts, change orders, and cost activity to support accurate project financial reporting.
- 6+ years of accounting or finance experience preferred for this level of role.
- Previous office experience with a general contractor or subcontractor.
- Basic QuickBooks experience, including data entry and platform navigation in QuickBooks Online or Desktop.
- Understanding of how job costs differ from standard business expenses.
- Basic Excel skills for spreadsheets, tracking lists, and simple totals.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, and financial modeling.
- Strong understanding of GAAP as it relates to construction contracts and revenue recognition.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, accurate, and able to maintain meticulous records.
- Strong technical aptitude and ability to learn construction accounting and project management systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Procore.
- Experience supporting progress billing, WIP reports, project closeout, and construction audit requests.
- Experience with Foundation Software or similar construction accounting software.
- Strong career interest in construction finance, job costing, and project accounting.
