Position is remote, MUST LIVE IN CA and able to occasionally travel to Santa Rosa, CA. We are seeking a senior-level Accounting Manager to lead and execute core accounting operations. This is a hands-on role responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting, with a strong emphasis on general ledger integrity, grant accounting, and financial operations. This role reports to the Controller (with a dotted line to the CFO) and plays a key part in supporting organizational decision-making and financial health.

Key Responsibilities
• Oversee and maintain the general ledger, ensuring accuracy of financial data
• Lead monthly and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and reporting
• Review postings from AP, AR, payroll, and external systems
• Prepare and submit grant billing and reimbursement requests
• Support monthly financial statements, budgets, and analysis
• Ensure timely financial data for real-time decision-making
• Manage grant reporting and ensure compliance with funding requirements
• Develop and validate cost allocation methodologies across programs
• Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules
• Build custom financial reports (drill-down, multi-segment)
• Lead audit preparation and support external auditors
• Prepare schedules for tax filings
• Identify and implement process improvements and internal controls
• Mentor and support accounting staff
• Manage accruals (payroll, PTO, benefits) and balance sheet accounts
• Assist with collections and cash application
• Participate in cross-functional projects

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (required)
• CPA or professional certification (preferred)
• 5–7+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Minimum 2 years of nonprofit fund accounting experience
• Experience with multi-site or multi-entity organizations (preferred)
• Strong experience with federal/state funding and reporting (preferred)
• Expertise in general ledger and financial reporting
• Experience with grant accounting and reimbursement-based funding
• Advanced Excel skills; experience with accounting systems (Sage Intacct preferred)
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
