Accounting Manager
Summary
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the accounting function and ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, internal policies, and established procedures across all locations and departments. This role provides oversight of project accounting activities, including monitoring progress, investigating variances, approving expenses, and ensuring accurate project billing and timely collection of payments.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with month-end close and financial reporting processes
Ensure timely payment of insurance, benefits, and related obligations
Manage and maintain the internal accounting database and systems
Process and oversee business tax payments in compliance with local, state, and federal requirements
Reconcile balance sheet accounts and internal reports, including work-in-progress and inventory-related schedules
Assist in the preparation of periodic financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards
Support accounts payable functions, including postings, wire transfers, and reporting
Maintain and update documented accounting policies and procedures
Identify and recommend improvements to accounting processes and controls
Project Accounting Responsibilities
Monitor and authorize the creation and maintenance of project accounts
Audit project-related documentation, including contracts and change orders
Review and approve project-related supplier invoices, timesheets, and overhead allocations
Authorize transfers of expenses into and out of project accounts
Review project asset and expense balances
Investigate and report project variances to management
Report on project profitability, funding availability, and additional billing opportunities
Coordinate with accounts receivable on unpaid billings and collections
Investigate project expenses not billed to customers
Support the review and approval of write-offs for uncollectible receivables
Close project accounts upon completion
Prepare and submit required government reports and tax filings related to projects
Compile documentation for internal and external audits
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field
Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in accounting or project accounting
Construction or project-based accounting experience preferred
Experience preparing and filing business tax payments, including multi-state sales and use tax and property tax reporting
Strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in accounting software, project management systems, and Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills preferred
