Accounting Manager (Nonprofit)
Full-Time | Flexible Schedule | $80,000-$100,000 DOE | Located in San Diego, CA
We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee day-to-day accounting operations and ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards. This role partners closely with leadership to provide financial insight that supports and advances the organization’s mission.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the general ledger and oversee month-end and year-end close
Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements
Oversee AP, AR, cash management, and restricted funds
Prepare financial reports for leadership and the Board
Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
Maintain internal controls and support annual audits
Assist with Form 990 preparation and regulatory compliance
Oversee payroll processing, payroll postings, and benefit reconciliations
Supervise and mentor accounting staff as applicable
Partner with program, development, and operations teams on financial tracking
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including nonprofit and payroll
Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
Experience with audits, internal controls, and financial reporting
Proficiency with accounting systems and Excel
Preferred: CPA or CPA-eligible, grants and restricted funds experience, prior management experience
Compensation & Benefits:

$2,700 bonus after 2 years
1% annual salary increase after 5 years
