Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Accounting Generalist for a direct hire opportunity with a professional legal services organization in Downtown Los Angeles. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with strong legal billing experience who enjoys being part of a collaborative, team-oriented finance department.
The Accounting Generalist will support a wide range of accounting functions, with approximately 50% of the role focused on heavy billing. This position works closely with the Controller, Finance Partner, Director of Human Resources, attorneys, billing specialists, and other internal team members. The environment is fast-paced, detail-driven, and highly collaborative, offering the opportunity to contribute across billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, trust accounting, general ledger support, collections, and month-end reporting.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist with preparation of prebills, invoice revisions, final invoices, time entry updates, and billing narratives in accordance with attorney instructions and client billing guidelines.
- Post client payments, apply funds to appropriate matters, monitor accounts receivable, and assist with follow-up on outstanding balances.
- Process vendor invoices, check requests, expense reimbursements, electronic payments, and vendor statement reconciliations.
- Support trust and operating account activity, including deposits, disbursements, reconciliations, client trust ledgers, and State Bar trust accounting compliance.
- Assist with general ledger entries, month-end and year-end close, financial reporting, audits, tax planning, year-end tax preparation, and special accounting projects.
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records while handling confidential financial information with discretion.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary: $80,000 to $100,000 per year.

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Support legal billing operations, including prebills, final invoices, billing revisions, and client billing guideline compliance.
- Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, trust accounting, and operating account support.
- Prepare general ledger support, financial records, month-end reporting, and accounting documentation.
- Work closely with the Controller, Finance Partner, Human Resources leadership, attorneys, billing specialists, vendors, and clients.
- 3 to 5 years of accounting experience, preferably within a law firm or legal services environment.
- Prior law firm accounting or legal billing experience strongly preferred.
- Understanding of trust accounting, IOLTA accounts, legal billing requirements, and compliance standards.
- Experience with legal accounting or billing software such as ProLaw, Aderant, Elite, Tabs3, or similar platforms.
- Strong Excel, data entry, reconciliation, and financial reporting skills with a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to manage confidential financial information with professionalism and discretion.
- Strong communication skills when working with attorneys, staff, vendors, and clients.
- Highly organized, reliable, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proactive problem-solving skills and a team-focused approach to supporting accounting operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting multiple attorneys, practice groups, or departments in a law firm accounting environment.
- Familiarity with State Bar trust accounting rules and client trust ledger maintenance.
- Experience assisting with audits, financial reviews, tax planning, and year-end accounting projects.
- Prior experience in a high-volume billing environment with complex client billing guidelines.
