Job Summary

A professional legal services organization in Los Angeles is seeking an Accounting Generalist for a direct hire opportunity. This role will support the firm’s accounting and finance operations, with a strong focus on legal billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, trust accounting support, general ledger activity, and financial record maintenance.

The Accounting Generalist will report to senior finance and human resources leadership and work closely with attorneys, staff, vendors, and clients. Key Responsibilities

- Assist with preparation of prebills and final invoices according to attorney instructions and client billing guidelines.
- Revise time entries and billing narratives, post client payments, and accurately apply funds to the correct matters.
- Process vendor invoices, check requests, electronic payments, and employee expense reimbursements with proper coding and approvals.
- Support trust and operating account activity, including deposits, disbursements, reconciliations, and client trust ledger maintenance.
- Assist with general ledger entries, financial data maintenance, month-end and year-end close, audits, tax preparation, and routine reporting.
- Maintain organized financial records while ensuring discretion, accuracy, and compliance with firm procedures.

Compensation and Benefits

- Salary range: $80,000 to $95,000 per year.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Support legal billing, including prebills, final invoices, time entry revisions, billing narratives, and client payment posting.
- Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, vendor reconciliations, expense reimbursements, and payment processing.
- Support trust and operating account reconciliations, client trust ledgers, and compliance with trust accounting procedures.
- Maintain general ledger data, financial records, routine reports, and close-related accounting support.

- 3 to 5 years of relevant accounting, finance, billing, or bookkeeping experience.
- Understanding of legal billing procedures, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general accounting workflows.
- Knowledge of trust accounting concepts and compliance standards, including IOLTA-related processes.
- Strong Excel skills and accurate data entry capabilities.
- Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion and professionalism.
- Strong communication skills for working with attorneys, staff, vendors, and clients.
- Excellent organization, attention to detail, follow-through, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven legal services environment.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods while working at a computer and lift files, open filing cabinets, bend, or stand as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

- Prior law firm accounting or legal billing experience.
- Experience with legal accounting or billing software such as ProLaw, Aderant, Elite, Tabs3, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with State Bar trust accounting rules and law firm financial compliance standards.
- Experience supporting multiple attorneys, practice groups, or departments in a professional services environment.
