Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Associate for a direct hire opportunity in Laguna Beach, CA. This role supports the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of a real estate portfolio and related entities, offering hands-on exposure to accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, general ledger accounting, property financial reporting, cash management, construction accounting, lender draws, and Yardi.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting student, recent graduate, or early-career accounting professional who wants to grow beyond basic data entry or bookkeeping. The Accounting Associate will work closely with an experienced team, receive practical training, and build a strong foundation in real estate accounting and property-level financial operations.

The ideal candidate will be highly organized, curious, accurate, and eager to learn. This position offers a clear growth path from Accounting Associate to Junior or Staff Accountant, Property Accountant, and eventually Senior Property Accountant for candidates who demonstrate ownership, follow-through, and strong accounting judgment.

Key Responsibilities

- Process vendor invoices in Yardi Pay Scan, confirm coding accuracy, maintain supporting documentation, track approvals, assist with check runs, and support vendor record maintenance.
- Assist with accounts receivable, including tenant ledgers, payment posting, receivable tracking, past-due follow-up, AR reporting, and reconciliation to the general ledger.
- Support accounting for multiple real estate properties and related entities, including management fees, construction management fees, leasing commissions, reimbursements, intercompany expenses, and property-level operating expenses.
- Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations, match transactions to receipts and documentation, maintain reconciliation workbooks, and research discrepancies.
- Assist with month-end close, general ledger review, account reconciliations, journal entries, prepaid expenses, intercompany transactions, AP and AR reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Support construction accounting and lender draw processes by organizing invoices, tracking project expenditures, maintaining draw schedules, monitoring reserves, and reconciling draw activity to accounting records.

Compensation and Benefits

- Salary range: $70,000 to $75,000 per year.
- Job type: Direct hire.
- Location: Laguna Beach, CA.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and general ledger accounting for real estate properties and related entities.
- Assist with monthly close, financial reporting, bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, cash management, and wire transfer documentation.
- Work extensively in Yardi for invoice entry, AP processing, AR entries, property coding, management fee tracking, reimbursement tracking, financial reporting, and account research.
- Help prepare construction accounting documentation, lender draw packages, project expense tracking, and supporting schedules.

- Currently pursuing or recently completed coursework in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles.
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with spreadsheets, reconciliations, and financial data.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and follow-through.
- Ability to manage multiple properties, entities, accounts, deadlines, and competing priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with confidential financial information and understand the importance of internal controls when handling company funds.
- Comfortable researching discrepancies, asking questions, and resolving issues rather than simply entering data.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with accounting and management teams.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience preferred based on the experience level of the role.

Preferred Qualifications

- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or active progress toward a degree.
- Previous experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, accounting, banking, or administrative finance.
- Experience with Yardi.
- Real estate accounting or property accounting experience.
- Understanding of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, general ledgers, budget-to-actual reports, AP reports, AR reports, and cash balances.
- Experience performing bank reconciliations and credit card reconciliations.
