Job Summary

A growing business services organization in Santa Barbara, CA is seeking an Accounting Assistant for a temp-to-hire opportunity focused on accounts receivable, tenant account support, payment processing, and administrative accounting tasks. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional with 1 to 2 years of experience who enjoys working with numbers, resolving account questions, and supporting both internal teams and clients.

The Accounting Assistant will work closely with property management and front office teams in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This is a strong opportunity for someone who values accuracy, organization, supportive teamwork, and the potential to grow into a long-term role with a stable organization.

Key Responsibilities

- Collect, process, research, and deposit client payments while ensuring funds are applied to the correct accounts.
- Monitor and update resident accounts, process monthly charge adjustments, and assist clients with complex account questions.
- Reconcile laundry money, process returned payments, and make collection calls when needed.
- Serve as a liaison with the bank regarding deposit, software, hardware, and payment processing issues.
- Support administrative functions including scanning, filing, purging resident files, processing new leases, and handling tenancy changes.
- Maintain property insurance information in Excel and AppFolio, and follow up with insurance carriers to confirm required coverage.

Compensation

- Compensation: $47,840 per year.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Process accounts receivable payments, deposits, returned payments, and account adjustments.
- Research unprocessed payments and reconcile account activity with accuracy.
- Support tenant account maintenance, lease processing, file management, and administrative accounting projects.
- Provide customer service support to clients, residents, and internal property management teams.

- 1 to 2 years of accounting, accounts receivable, administrative accounting, or related experience.
- Strong math skills with the ability to audit complex tenant or customer account records.
- Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical ability, and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written, verbal, listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Flexible, positive attitude with the ability to support front office greeting and phone coverage when needed.

Preferred Qualifications

- Knowledge of AppFolio.
- Knowledge of property insurance.
- Experience supporting property management, resident accounts, tenant records, or lease administration.
