We are seeking an experienced Accountant III for a contract opportunity in San Bernardino, CA. This advanced journey-level accounting role is ideal for a detail-oriented finance professional with strong governmental accounting knowledge, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage complex accounting activities with accuracy and independence.
The Accountant III will support high-level financial reporting, general ledger activity, reconciliations, fund accounting, audit preparation, and special financial analysis projects. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, schedules, reports, and supporting documentation.
- Manage general ledger activity, including journal entries, account reconciliations, adjustments, and review of account balances.
- Perform complex reconciliations for bank accounts, investments, fiscal agent accounts, specialized funds, and other financial records.
- Analyze revenues, expenditures, variances, fund balances, and cash activity, and prepare corrective entries as needed.
- Support audit preparation by developing working papers, schedules, documentation, and responses for external auditors.
- Review accounting procedures and internal controls, recommend process improvements, and provide guidance to accounting staff.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay rate: $41 to $45 per hour.

- Manage general ledger entries, account adjustments, fund accounting records, and financial control processes.
- Analyze revenue, expenditures, cash activity, fixed assets, and financial variances.
- Support audits, regulatory filings, internal control reviews, and special financial analysis projects.
- Associate’s Degree in Accounting or a closely related field.
- At least five years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and governmental accounting principles and practices.
- Experience with general ledger, journal entries, accounts payable, payroll, fixed assets, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of fund accounting, cost accounting, budgeting principles, internal controls, audit standards, and financial analysis.
- Proficiency with accounting systems, spreadsheets, research methods, and statistical techniques.
- Ability to analyze complex financial data, identify issues, and make sound recommendations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, manage multiple priorities, and perform work with a high degree of accuracy.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional accounting experience in a public agency or government environment.
- Experience supporting external audits, tax filings, regulatory reporting, and specialized fund accounting.
- Advanced spreadsheet skills and the ability to improve accounting workflows, procedures, and internal controls.
