Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Accountant III for a contract/temporary opportunity in San Bernardino, CA. This role is ideal for a senior accounting professional with strong fund accounting, governmental accounting, general ledger, audit support, fixed asset, and financial analysis experience.

The Accountant III will support a public-sector finance environment where accuracy, compliance, accountability, and sound financial reporting are essential. Key Responsibilities

- Review general ledger activity, journal entries, reconciliations, and accounting records for accuracy, proper classification, and compliance with GAAP, GASB, and applicable regulations.
- Investigate variances and discrepancies, prepare correcting entries, and support accounts payable, purchasing, payroll, and other finance-related functions.
- Prepare and maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedules, cost accounting records, financial schedules, working papers, reports, and audit documentation.
- Support internal and external audits, year-end close activities, annual comprehensive financial reporting, tax reporting, and regulatory filings.
- Conduct financial studies and analyses, review accounting processes, and recommend improvements to procedures, documentation, and internal controls.
- Maintain accurate confidential financial records and perform additional accounting and finance duties as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits

- Pay rate: $43 to $52 per hour.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Support fund accounting, governmental accounting, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting activities.
- Prepare fixed asset schedules, depreciation records, audit schedules, working papers, and supporting documentation.
- Analyze variances, discrepancies, accounting records, and complex financial data to identify issues and recommend improvements.
- Assist with cost accounting, capital project analysis, regulatory reporting, year-end audit support, and internal control improvements.

- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field required.
- Senior-level professional accounting experience required, preferably with 10+ years of accounting experience in a public-sector, governmental, or similarly complex environment.
- Experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, accounts payable, payroll, reconciliations, and fixed assets.
- Strong knowledge of general accounting, fund accounting, governmental accounting, GAAP, GASB, public-sector budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of cost accounting, fixed asset accounting, audit principles, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong spreadsheet skills and experience using financial systems to research, analyze, reconcile, and report financial information.
- Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local regulations and professional accounting standards.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, research, reconciliation, problem-solving, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
- High level of accuracy, organization, confidentiality, professionalism, and collaboration with employees, leadership, auditors, and stakeholders.
- Equivalent combinations of relevant education, training, and professional accounting experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
- Experience in public-sector, governmental, fund accounting, or similarly complex accounting environments.
- Experience supporting annual comprehensive financial reports, year-end audits, capital projects, and regulatory filings.
- Experience developing or improving accounting procedures, internal controls, documentation standards, and financial reporting processes.
